Useful advice for travelling to Oman (OM)

Cheap flights to Oman are a great opportunity to explore the exotic and distant Sultanate of Oman. In this Arab country, you will be able to observe never-before-seen architectural masterpieces, take a trip in the desert, visit oases and mountains, ride a camel, or even watch dolphins, whales, and sea turtles. Before you go out, you should try and understand this exotic jewel of a country better to prepare for your journey.

Preparing for the trip

Lithuanian citizens will need to acquire a visa to visit Oman; only those with diplomatic, service, or special passports are free to arrive without one. A one-time visa will be issued in the airport for 20 Omani rials, while a long-term tourist visa will cost 50 rials.

Before you head out, you will need to get vaccinated against yellow fever in the case of you arriving through infected territories. Otherwise, you will only need to acquire some anti-malaria medication, get vaccinated against hepatitis A and B, and renew your vaccinations against diphtheria and tetanus if that is necessary. After arriving, you should be wary of getting infected with typhoid fever and be careful to frequently wash your hands, eat safely and drink only bottled water.

Transportation and travel charges

The Omani public transport system is poorly developed, but you still will be able to visit main cities using a bus. Sightseeing objects will be further reached in a white-orange taxi vehicle or a minibus. In the latter, you will need to share your trip with fifteen other passengers. There is also a possibility of renting a car in Oman, or you could always take the only fast ferry ride from Muscat to Khasab.

You can pay for your purchases using the official local currency, the Omani rial (OMR). One rial is equal to approximately 0.43 euro. You will order three meals in an average local restaurant for 5 rials. Public transport tickets cost 0.30 rials, while a one kilometre long taxi ride will cost you approximately 0.20.

Additional information:

  • Official language is Arabic, but many locals also speak English.
  • The country belongs to the UTC +4 time zone.
  • Direct distance from Vilnius to Oman’s capital Muscat amounts to about 4411 kilometres.
  • Best return gifts choices

Silver necklaces, bracelets, and earrings are particularly popular Omani souvenirs. Brass and copper coffee pots called A'Dallah will make a unique return gift. These traditional coffee pots have a lid connected to the handle and a curved spout that symbolizes friendly and welcoming attitudes. Your friends and loved ones who favour sweets will be especially pleased with a gift of dates, which are available to purchase in more than five different sorts. Unique Omani incense and myrrh as well as handmade clay dishes will also make great return gifts.

Flights to Oman provide an amazing possibility to spend an exotic and unexpected holiday trip, which will particularly please all those who are bored of trips in Europe. Deserts, mountains, amazing beaches, unseen architectural monuments, exotic animals, unique culture, and plenty of action all await those who wish to discover Oman.
