Wellington: a city of breathtaking nature and adventures

South New Zealand city of Wellington beckons with its positive attitudes and exotic landscape. The city’s stone walls hide a true New Zealandian spirit of culture and entertainment, welcoming us to an unusual but appealing world. New Zealand’s capital is an ideal holiday destination point for families that seek new and exciting knowledge about the country.

How to travel?

Wellington airport is located 8 kilometres away from the city centre, and this distance can be quickly crossed using a comfortable bus, rental car, or taxi. City centre offers many sightseeing objects that can be easily reached on foot. Other Wellington areas and districts can be reached using a bus, a funicular, a train, or a ferry.

What to taste?

Wellington is ready to offer its visitors many unique local delicacies. If you truly wish to understand local cuisine better, we recommend ordering roasted sweet potato chips kumara, koura dish made from crayfish, oven-baked potatoes with sausage, beans, and cheese on skewers cheesy beans potatoes, and clam fritters.

For dessert, why not indulge in refreshing ball-shaped hokey–pokey ice cream, Anzac biscuits with oats and desiccated coconut, and some Pavlova cake (meringue-based dessert with gummy candies and fruit). For refreshments, choose between delicious local drinks: semi-dry white wine or home-made beer.

What to see?

Begin your acquaintance with Wellington by visiting the modern museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa. Unforgettable impression is guaranteed, if you also pay a visit to the Great War Exhibition. The past and the present are joined by the elegant Wellington city hall, and you can also admire similar unity of different time periods by climbing up the mount Victoria.

Wellington is proud of its striking parliament house, Anglican cathedral, and the imposing building of Wellington University. You can immerse yourself in local culture by paying a visit to the City Art Gallery, the Opera house, and St. James’ theatre.

What to do?

The entire family will love a walk across the Royal botanical gardens, where the oldest country’s exotic plants have found their shelter. Also worth seeing, are the animals that live in the New Zealand Reserve and the nearby Zoo.

For active leisure, choose the Oriental Bay shore that’s great for running, riding a bike, and admiring art and sculptures. Another option for entertainment is taking a tour around the Weta Cave, where the magic of some of the most famous films unravels.

On the outskirts of Wellington, you will further find the vast Tasman glacier with the impressive Mount Cook, Cook channel, and other New Zealandian winders. Wellington is an amazing starting point for a country-wide exploration journey to start.
