The city with a thousand lovers

In the northern part of New Zealand, surrounded by 65 volcanoes, there lies the happy land of Auckland. It is the biggest city of New Zealand, beloved by tourists because of its great infrastructure, surprising calmness, and cosiness. This port-city is adorned by thousands of white sails and sky-raising skyscrapers, which invite everyone to get acquainted with different faces of the former capital city.

How to travel?

The Auckland International Airport is located 15 kilometres away from the city centre, which can be reached with the help of comfortable city public transport, namely, buses and minibuses. You could always choose a taxi or a rental car instead.

Main city sightseeing objects can be reached on foot, as the city centre is not very big. However, for further travels you can choose from offered subway, bus, train, or ferry services.

What to taste?

Auckland is a perfect city for getting a taste of traditional local cuisine. Indulge yourself and try the delicious Maori stew with pork and sweet potatoes, grilled meat with vegetables, locals’ beloved fried lamb with rosemary, or fish with French fries.

For dessert, choose a piece of Pavlova cake with fruits and gummy candies, exotic local fruits, chocolate zephyr fishies, and orange flavour candy coated chocolate balls. City heat will go down after having a refreshing cold drink of juice or home-made beer.

What to see?

Most interesting city objects can be observed by going to the top of the Auckland Television tower, where a beautiful panoramic view opens up, and presents full beauty of the city.

While visiting this port-city, you should definitely go visit the National maritime museum, where the entire history of New Zealand is told, as well as the majestic Harbour Bridge and hundreds of white sails that adorn the shore. Also worth paying attention to is the Town Hall building with its spacious Concert Chamber, the striking St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and the Old Customs House.

What to do?

Go just outside the city, and you can visit the creepy and shadowy Waitomo Caves, full of glow worms. However, Auckland itself is also full of entertainment possibilities. You can choose to get your adrenalin levels up by bungee jumping from the Television tower, or go yacht swimming, sailing, and diving.

You can get better acquainted with the underwater world of New Zealand by paying a visit to Kelly Tarlton's Sea Life Aquarium and its glass tunnels. If you’re more of a land person, head over to the Eden park-stadium, where you will be able to observe intense matches of rugby and cricket.0

Auckland’s name came from Maori language and it actually means the maiden sought by a hundred lovers. Breathtaking urban and seaside panoramic views, unique entertainment, and unusual honesty of the locals are all reasons for you to want to join the many lovers of the city.
