Majestic Mexico – a place of meaningful beauty

Vast open spaces, wide streets and boulevards are things that are first noticeable when visiting Mexico City. After a while, you will start noticing other prominent aspects of the Mexican capital as well: impeccable cleanness, gorgeous architecture, and a huge number of locals. Together, all of these fragments make up a unique picture of Mexico City, depicting history of entire civilisations.

How to travel?

Cheap and fast flights to Mexico reach their finish at the international Benito Juarez airport. It is located 5 kilometres away from the city centre, and to go there, you can take a bus, a taxi, use railway or get on metro. If you choose buses, however, make sure that the vehicle officially belongs to an existing transport company.

What to taste?

Mexico restaurants offer many dishes: some already known to the Lithuanians and some new and exciting. Among many unique tasting local Mexican delicacies are fragrant guacamoles, juicy salsa sauce, filling tortillas, quesadillas, burritos, and enchiladas.

After having tasted these delicious meals, why not go even deeper into the culinary world of Mexico. Order some mashed beans (Frijoles), a shrimp cocktail (Cocktail de Camaron), or try some exotic pork with oranges and the legendary meat mince and tomatoes stew. These dishes are particularly well-liked among the city locals.

Mexico does not disappoint those who have a sweet tooth either. For dessert, we recommend ordering some vanilla ice cream with avocadoes or some pastries with cream. You can also indulge yourself in some hot chocolate, and quench your thirst with local beer (Cerveza), pulque (agava juice drink) or fruit juice.

What to see?

Begin your acquaintance with Mexico City by visiting the impressive Templo Mayor (“Major Temple”) that once belonged to the Aztecs. Pay a visit to the National Museum of Anthropology, where you will see even more Aztec and Mayan findings.

Also go and see the contrasts of cultural heritage, visit the Christian faith buildings as well. Worth paying attention are the Metropolitan Cathedral, the Mother of God Monastery, and the Minor Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

In the national Palace you will find the famous murals of Diego Riviera, and the Museum of Modern Art offers many art pieces of contemporary artists. Visit the castle of Chapultepec as well, as it houses the National Museum of History.

What to do?

Mexico City is surrounded by ancient civilisations’ ruins: some found, yet some still undiscovered. Go on a hiking trip – on foot or in a jeep – and see with your own eyes the legendary Pyramids of the Moon and the Sun.

The Constitution Square (Zocalo) and the nearby boulevard Paseo de la Reforma will both show not only modern skyscrapers, but the reality of present-day Mexico as well. However, the true reason why Mexico will never be forgotten lies on the city outskirts. Here, you will see the breathtaking beauty of the past, incomprehensible even to researchers. Lose yourself in the need to understand more about the antique times, and have a great holiday trip to Mexico City.
