Colourful and temperamental Rio de Janeiro awaits you

Many travellers’ dream is to visit the temperament heart of Brazil – the city of Rio. It was established on the Atlantic Ocean shore and it’s surrounded by numerous mountains and hills. Rio de Janeiro is referred to as the home of wild monkeys and samba, and it is famous for impressive architecture, gorgeous nature, bright-coloured carnivals, and hot Brazilian sun.

How to travel?

Each year, Rio de Janeiro attracts millions of visitors from all around the globe, usually coming to main airports: the International Airport of Rio de Janeiro (Galeão) or Santos Dumont Airport. Both of them are some distance away from the city centre, which can be reached in a taxi or using public transport services. There are flights from Lithuania available but you would have to change planes, while prices depend on time of the year. Cheap flights are usually being offered in late spring and early autumn.

Just like every other big city, Rio de Janeiro offers several different types of public transport: metro, trams, trains, taxi, and buses. Many say that bus drivers resemble Formula 1 pilots in Rio, so it should be perfect for those who like new experiences and adrenalin rushes.

What to taste?

Brazilian cuisine is said to be one of the best in South America. Do not miss an opportunity to taste all the most delicious dishes here. Rio de Janeiro has many restaurants and cafés, which will offer to taste unlimited amounts of food in exchange for a fixed price. Definitely try the mouth-watering feijoada, best paired with a little bit of sugarcane alcohol cocktail, locally known as caipirinha.

What to see?

The entire world knows the famous statue of Christ the Redeemer that’s become the great Brazilian symbol and a must-see tourist object of Rio de Janeiro. Don’t miss out on walking across the unique old town and visiting the Tijuca National Park, which is the biggest urban forest in the world. Rio is also famous for its wonderfully beautiful beaches, so take some time to relax in Copacabana or Ipanema. If your wish is to closely observe the nature’s beauty, pay a visit to the botanical gardens.

What to do?

If such an opportunity arises, definitely go and visit the famous Rio Carnival that attracts large crowds of people every year. This samba celebrating event is always brimming with colours and good mood, and it leaves no one unmoved by it all. If you still have some energy left, why not get better acquainted with the city nightlife. Rio de Janeiro is a charming city that will put a spell on you, so that you will want to return again and again.
