Manchester: a magical city with something to do for everyone

Manchester is a beautiful city of shiny glass skyscrapers and impressive gothic and neo-gothic architecture. Manchester was once known as a well-developed industrial city, which is now considered an economical and cultural capital of Lancashire that every tourist should visit.

How to travel?

Direct flights from Lithuania to Manchester are not available but you can always take a connecting flight with changing planes. This way, you will still be able to reach this city for a low price, especially, if you plan the trip beforehand. The International Manchester Airport is located 14 kilometres away from the city centre. You can go to your hotel or any other location in 15 to 30 minutes by using a train or a bus. The best news about Manchester public transport is, you can travel for free, using buses that go along all the main city streets.

What to taste?

On your first morning in Manchester, head over to any cosy local café and order your breakfast. WE recommend ordering Manchester eggs, which are first salted, covered in black pudding or usual sausages, and then rolled in breadcrumbs and roasted until they become golden. For lunch, you could try some “fish and chips”, a meal custom in the entire Great Britain. Possibly try it along with some pea mash, which is so popular in Manchester that it’s even used as a pizza topping. For dessert, taste some heavenly delicious Manchester tart with raspberry jam, filled with sweet cream and sprinkled with coconut.

What to see?

Impressive architecture items can be observed by visiting Manchester Cathedral and the majestic neo-gothic Manchester Town Hall, which has become a true city symbol. Also striking is the late Victorian era neo-gothic John Rylands Library, which will make its readers exclaim in wonder and admiration. While visiting Manchester, pay a visit to the Castlefield Urban Heritage Park, where you will see the world's first railway station, a restored Roman-era fort, and the world’s first industrial Bridgewater Canal, opened for coal mining back in 1761.

What to do?

Energetic Manchester city will always provide you with something to do, even if you’re not visiting it for the first time. Football fans simply must pay a visit to the wonderful modern Etihad Stadium and the National Football Museum, which presents numerous trophies and offers an entirely new exposition every 6 months. If you have a free afternoon, head over to the world’s third biggest Chinatown, observe the highest Manchester skyscraper in the form of Beetham tower, and visit the Manchester Art Gallery, which will let you admire some of the most beautiful works by impressionist artist Paul Gauguin, Claude Monet, and others.
