Kraków – a city of kings and churches

History lessons and calmness oozing streets and their old architecture, the renaissance royal buildings complex that surrounds the treasuries of the state, and Kraków’s true heart, the old town that is so beloved by tourists; all these details make up the first strong impression for every visitor. Kraków is a city that speaks about the glorious past and its reflections, bound together in architecture, arts, and history.

How to travel?

Poland’s diamond Kraków can be reached by plane, after landing at the Kraków airport. All of the most important city objects can then be visited by bus; the route it takes is truly impressive. Bus tickets are cheap, but the trip will be quick and comfortable.

What to taste?

In order to get a proper understanding and taste of Polish cuisine, you should forget about counting calories. You simply must start trying out the local dishes from the bigos stew with sauerkraut and various kinds of chopped meat. Other great dish to taste is Polish dumplings called pierogi. All in all, Polish dishes are usually made from sauerkraut, pickles, beetroots, sour cream, mushrooms, and various kinds of meat. Therefore, everyone will be able to find something they’ll like amongst many Kraków delicacies. Be prepared to be offered a vodka shot with your order of food to spur the digestion process, slow after a filling meal.

What to see?

While visiting Kraków, you should definitely visit the charming old town, often called the heart of the city. It will not leave you disappointed or bored. The best way to look at all of it at once is to go up the Wawel Hill with a 16th century Royal palace and a great panoramic view.

The Czartoryski Museum’s doors are always open for tourists who wish to see famous works of European painters, such as Leonardo da Vinci or Rembrandt. Those keenly interested in history should head over to the Nazi concentration camp at Auschwitz outside of Kraków. Today, it is a museum that tells about the Holocaust and its crimes against the humanity.

What to do?

Kraków will not let you have a single boring minute, as the city simmers with social, cultural, and night life. Art lovers will be happy to visit numerous city art museums, and those looking for some respite from constant city noises, will find it in Kraków’s Zoo and Botanical gardens. Nightlife will also not disappoint: everyone can choose between plenty of bars and taverns.
