Budapest – the city adorned with majestically beautiful architecture

Budapest is often titled the Eastern European Paris because of its numerous wondrous architectural heritage objects that reflect upon a culture of thousands of years. This city has something to offer both for lovers of exploring museums, churches and other historic and cultural objects, and those who seek for as much holiday rest as possible.

How to travel?

Are you interested in cheap flights to Budapest? If so, purchase your tickets and fly straight to the international Budapest Ferenc Liszt airport. After that, just take a bus number 200E, in order to reach the blue metro line, which will take you straight to the city centre. You can also use minibus or taxi services, but these are generally pricy. Hungary capital city’s beauty is best observed by travelling on foot, and if you get tired, just take subway train, a bus, or a trolleybus.

What to taste?

While visiting Budapest, make sure to taste some of the best Hungarian cuisine dishes, such as meat stew with onions, paprika, and other vegetables (Pörkölt). Another dish that is surely worth being your lunch is called Chicken Paprikash, andconsists of baked chicken with rice noodles, in red pepper and butter sauce.

Hungarians love eating soup, so make sure to try the traditional Jókai bean soup or the Fisher soup. For dessert, try and compare the well-known Lithuanian and traditional Hungarian spin cake (šakotis in Lithuanian), sold on the street, as well as some Dobos sponge cake with chocolate butter or caramel.

What to see?

Tourists who love various styles of architecture will love Budapest. Worth paying a visit are many objects, especially the 14th century gothic Matthias church, charming both inside and out, and sporting impressive pointy turrets. Just nearby, you will see the 18th century Buda castle, which becomes a truly fantastic sight at night because of the lighting. Also worth visiting, are the neo gothic and neo romantic Fisherman’s Bastion, which reminds of a Disney Walt fairytale-like castle, the amazing neo gothic Parliament house, and the monument dedicated to Holocaust victims, made from 60 pairs of iron shoes laid out on the Danube river bank.

What to do?

Climb on top of the Gellert hill, and you will be able to see a monument for bishop Gellert, as well as visit a hotel of the same name, where one can indulge in mineral baths. In order to better understand the multi-coloured Budapest culture, take your time to observe the Margaret island park greenery. In the evening, go looking for entertainment, best found in VI district of Budapest, where the best clubs and bars are located.
