Flights to Frankfurt

Frankfurt is the city that is surrounded by Main river, full of glass skyscrapers, and beckoning with its numerous museums and galleries. This city will offer something to do for every visitor: whether their main interests are cinema, literature and music, they are nature lovers, or someone who is head over heels for ancient and modern architecture.

How to travel?

Flights from Lithuania to Frankfurt are direct and generally not too pricy, and you will be able to spend more money on sightseeing and other holiday expenses. Frankfurt airport that in 2015 welcomed 65 million travellers is located 12 kilometres away from the city centre. It can be quickly reached by using S8 or S9 train lines. Inside the city, you can travel using buses or trains, as these are cheap and easy ways of visiting interesting city objects.

What to taste?

While visiting Frankfurt, you simply must try some of the traditional Gruene Sosse – herbal sauce made from various herbs, sour cream, boiled eggs, and spices. It is said that this was once the favourite dish of Johann Wolfgang Goethe. If you’re looking for something lighter, order the Tartarrenbrot snack, which is a sandwich with raw beef, onions, and pickles. Most popular alcoholic drink in Frankfurt is apple wine, prepared from locally grown apples with alcohol content of 5%, and a glass of it is a great addition to any meal you’re having.

What to see?

Frankfurt is simply brimming with skyscrapers. Therefore, to add some contrast to that, why not visit the humble-sized but charming city old town. Here you will see the unusually shaped Romerberg square with its Romer complex of 11 wonderful buildings from the time period between the 14th and the 18th centuries; including the Old and New city town hall buildings, the 14th century gothic St. Leonhard’s church, and St. Nicholas church that is famous for its carillon. Also very striking are the red gothic building of St. St. Bartholomaus Cathedral and the Old Opera House that was built in 1880.

What to do?

After visiting the highest in Germany Frankfurt’s Commerzbank Tower and taking a walk across the charming old town, pay a visit to the famous German writer’s Johann Wolfgang Goethe’s house-museum. If you still have some free time left, make sure to view the collection of Modern art museum, including famous works of Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Francis Beckon, and other famous painters. Also, do not forget to admire the largest botanical garden in Germany, Frankfurt’s Palmengarten.
