City that contains both France and Germany in itself

On the outskirts of France, near the border with Germany, there lies a city of justice, Strasbourg. It is worth paying it a visit for more than its great many institutions. Strasbourg provides a unity of several cultures weaving together, and this in turn creates a unique and charmingly elegant city view. Cheap flights to Strasbourg are a great opportunity to see it yourself.

How to travel?

Every plane lands in the International Entzheim Airport. It takes only 9 minutes to get from there to the city centre, and you can choose to do it by train, by renting a car, or by taking a taxi.

Every place in the city is reachable because of an excellently developed tram and bus system. Both means of transportation use the same kind of tickets, that are also valid one hour after you switch one bus or tram for another, if afterwards you’re still going to the same direction.

What to taste?

Strasbourg will not feel disappointing even the most demanding gourmet lovers. The city offers both French and German delicacies. If you feel like trying out some street food, pastries with different kinds of fillings are a great choice. Most popular fillings are sausage and sour cabbage. While you’re in the old town, try some flammekueche – a pizza-like pie.

You may choose meat and fish dishes, served with pasta, for dinner. This food is usually filling, spiced with caraway, juniper, and onion. We recommend pairing it with famous white Alsace wine, or German beer with its unique taste.

What to see?

One of the most majestic buildings in Strasbourg is the graceful Strasbourg Notre-Dame Cathedral. Take your time both outside and within the cathedral, as its exterior is adorned with many statues and an astronomical clock, both of which will leave you in awe. The cathedral’s charming elegancy can only be likened to St. Thomas’ Church, decorated with murals and stained glass windows. W. A. Mozart himself has once played the organ in this church.

J. W. Goethe found his love precisely here, in Strasbourg’s old town. However, it is not only a place of grand romance. Multiple cosy and compact German style houses had been built in this part of the city, while the artificial Ill River flows right through it. Its passageway is connected by intricate, graceful little bridges. All in all, this makes up for a visage of a city on water, seemingly right out of a fairy tale.

What to do?

If you’re tired from long walks in the city, take a rest in Strasbourg’s Park of the Orangerie, which was originally built for Napoleon’s wife herself. If you wish to get to know Strasbourg city locals and guests a bit better, pay a visit to some clubs or bars, once the evening comes.

Most sightseeing objects in Strasbourg can be visited in a few days’ time. This is why this city is a perfect destination for weekend flight trips: for families, friends, and romantic pairs alike.
