Sofia: the masterpiece of Balkan culture, surrounded by roses

Bulgarian capital city of Sofia, found on the footslope of the Balkan peninsula, charms everyone with its architectural heritage and breathtakingly beautiful nature, leaving no one indifferent. Both travellers looking for some respite and calm and those who seek unforgettable adventures will be happy with ta trip to Sofia.

How to travel?

Bulgaria’s capital city is easy to reach by taking a flight and landing in one of the popular Bulgarian airports: in Sofia, Burgas, or Varna. You can always choose to take a cheap flight to Sofia with no additional taxes, and you will instantly feel the holiday mood enveloping you, as the flight will only take 20 minutes.

The best way to see as much city squares and streets as possible, is to take a tram ride; this is the cheapest way to travel around the city.

What to taste?

National Bulgarian cuisine is famous for its light menu full of traditional Balkan dishes. Here you will find Turkish and Greek dishes, as well as local Bulgarian ones. The secret to the temperamenal Balkan lifestyle is easier uncovered after tasting the authentic Bulgarian wine, well received in many other countries. You will notice that in some places, wine may cost less than water. Many Bulgarian and Sofia regions welcome tourists with an offer to observe and visit wide fields of grapes grown for manifacturing different wine sorts.

What to see?

Many faous sofia city locations can be reached on foot, as most of them are located at the city centre area. Several objects that we definitely recommend visiting are: Saint Sofia Church, the Tzar’s Palace, the Banya Bashi Mosque, the National Parliament, National Palace of Culture, the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, and many other wonderful objects. Sofia has numerous architectural monuments and many faith buildings. One of the striking and largest ones is the Alexander Nevsly Cathedral.

What to do?

While visiting the Bulgarian capital city of Sofia, make sure to take a short trip to a unique Bulgarian region called the Rose Valley. This region is famous for its fragrant and multi-coloured rose growing fields that are located just south of the Balkan Mountains, near the town of Kazanlak. The town also houses the Rose Museum, which is the only world’s museum dedicated solely to roses. In it you will see more than 15 000 different exhibits conneceted to rose growing and rose oil production. Take another trip from Sofia to the sunny resorts of Varna or Slanchev Bryag (Sunny Beach) and you will be able to admire grand views of Balkan Mountains and vineyard fields.
