How to travel?

Madrid Barajas airport is located on the outskirts of the city and considered one of the most important airports in Spain. Therefore, city government made sure that it would be not too hard to reach it easily and comfortably. You can go to or from the airport by using metro, Airport Express, or a simple city bus. Travelling on foot is entirely impossible in Madrid, as the city is vast and it would take too much time to make a tourist trip that way.

What to taste?

Entire Spanish cuisine consists of sultry and colourful dishes that may remind of the actual everyday life of most of the locals. Spaniards usually offer to taste traditional Madrid soup and stews that can be found, freshly made, in every local restaurant. Spanish-grown juicy vegetables go well with pork, lamb, or beef steaks.

Searching only for a snack? Try the traditional dish of tapas with serrano ham or dried meat from Extremadura or Andalusia farms. Lovers of sweets should not miss an opportunity for trying out barquillos, or waffle rolls, bunuelos, which are fried dough balls with whipped cream, and bartollilo con crema: sweet cream puffs that taste and smell amazing.

What to see?

While visiting Madrid, it’s worth visiting several local museums. The most popular one is Prado museum, with an impressive collection of paintings. After seeing it, head over to the Madrid national archaeology museum, as well as the Thyssen-Bornemisza and Reina Sofia museums that are housing objects spanning the time period from pre-historic ages to the new era.

Those who wish to go shopping and buy some return gifts, will love the Puerta del Sol shopping district, the main city street of Gran Via, and the flea market of Madrid. Here you will also be able to get a closer look at the locals’ lifestyle and authentic Spanish culture.

What to do?

It is said that those who haven’t been to a bullfight, did not yet truly visit Spain. This unorthodox kind of entertainment takes place in La Ventas bullfight arena, where just for a few Euros you can satisfy your curiosity and bravely tell everyone that you really have been to visit Madrid.
