Paris – the cosy city of romantics that is hiding behind masks

Paris is most usually called the city of love, and of lights. These titles are not unlike masks. Carefree lovebirds will only need to see the main objects in the city, while the more curious ones will undoubtedly go looking for Paris’ real face. It can sometimes seem a very difficult, contradictory, French-liberty-spirited one.

How to travel?

The capital of France can be most conveniently reached after landing in one of the airports. If you chose a cheap flight, you will arrive to Beauvais Airport. City guests are also welcomed in Orly, and Charles de Gaulle Airports. City centre can be reached by bus, by train, or by metro.

Metro is the most comfortable and the easiest means of transportation that many city locals can’t imagine doing without. Routes are clear and exact; stops are located near the numerous sightseeing objects. Buses and trams are a little bit less popular, but still comfortable to use.

What to taste?

If you wish to taste what French people eat every day, it will be easy to do. Paris has many cosy restaurants and pubs. For breakfast, it is recommended to try some of the famous bagels, and a coffee with milk. A filling dinner can be found in choosing to eat beef steak with French fries, veal stew, or steamed cabbage. Nearing the supper time, you should be in a restaurant, on the look-out for some stuffed escargot, some foie gras, or stuffed duck liver, and some truffles. Also great in the evening – trying out some of the delicious French cheeses, and indulging in a glass of intense flavour local wine.

What to see?

Many Paris symbols can be reached on foot. Even if you don’t have a particular interest in historical legacy, you simply must see the sophisticated gothic cathedral of Notre-Dame de Paris with your own eyes, as well as the majestic Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Paris. It is also worth visiting the Arc de Triomphe, the Avenue des Champs-Élysées, the Louvre, and the National Museum of Modern Art in Paris. Boost your romance levels by observing the Eiffel Tower and having a picnic in the Champ de Mars or by the Saint-Martin Canal, as the evening progresses.

If you really want to see what’s behind the many masks of the popular objects in Paris, go and visit local markets or cemeteries. It is recommended to wander around in the Aligre Market, the Saint Ouen flea market, and in the cemeteries of Père Lachaise and Montparnasse. You can gather some new bright colours of Paris if you decide to go through the business district of La Défense.

What to do?

While visiting the ever exuberant city of Paris, try to get once or twice get involved in street events. If you’re missing more active kinds of entertainment, rent a bike, and you’ll be able to find many charming corners of the city in a quicker and more fun way. In the evening, visit a theatre or listen to a live concert, or take a walk down by the Seine River. Only this way you will be able to discover a different Paris, with fewer tourists around, but no less entrancing.
