Beijing: the city of emperors and gods

Visit the city of Beijing, so beloved both by ancient emperors and gods with goddesses. After the smog eases up, prepare to observe and be amazed. Beijing, also called Peking, is a city of contrasts, changes, ancient history, and signs of bright future just behind the corner. It is a city that can easily surmount any other megacities of the world.

How to travel?

Cheap flights to Beijing reach their destination at the international airport, located 27 kilometres away from the city centre. You can cross that distance by using a taxi, a bus, or a train. China’s capital can be further explored using subway, water transport, or bikes. Public transport of Beijing is cheap, fast, modern, and comfortable.

What to taste?

The crunchy Peking duck and the juicy Chinese cabbage are only two examples of Beijing cuisine that are known globally. The first dish is one of the most challenging meals to prepare, according to many culinary experts in the world, and you should definitely not miss your chance to try it here, in Peking itself.

Usual Asians’ choice of rice is changed to grain, cereal, and long noodles in Beijing. Both noodles and wonton dumplings are mostly put into broth and various soups. Beijing cuisine also includes pancakes with meat and vegetable fillings, as well as steamed or baked dumplings. Usually, a thin bread of laobing is eaten along with many of the popular Chinese dishes.

If you start craving for something sweet, choose fruit. They can be eaten fresh or steamed, grilled, and even stuffed with rice. In Beijing, you can quench your thirst with the help of delicious Chinese tea, beer, or juice.

What to see?

Beijing will take your breath away, even if you are an experienced traveller of the Oriental world. Under the heavy whiteness of smog, it may seem like you can almost see a thousand year spirit or a shadow of an ancient emperor passing nearby. After the air clears out, the city opens up in its entire beauty.

Striking architecture objects belonging to differing philosophies and religions can be observed in Beijing: Temples of Heaven, Confucius, Dongyue, the Niujie Mosque, the Holy Saviour's Cathedral... Beijing’s heart is, however, the Forbidden City, which is an area full of imperial buildings, having been closed off to people for 500 years.

Even more miraculous objects await here: a 17-arch bridge, fabulous Emperors’ summer palace, and the Marble Boat that is simply gorgeous in rain. Farther from the city centre you will also see a CCTV tower that looks like an optical illusion and a surreal stadium of Bird’s nest.

What to do?

While visiting Beijing, you should definitely have a taste of all the Chinese tea sorts, wander around numerous temples and parks, and visit impressive museums. Great entertainment awaits you in the form of golf courses, spacious Dongdan sports complex, and the Xiushuijie skate park. You will not have a boring moment in Beijing, so prepare for an unforgettable holiday experience.
