The far away Hong Kong: a crossroad between Eastern and Western cultures

Hong Kong is often called the “fragrant harbour” by the Chinese. Everyone who has ever paid a visit to the city was left with long-lasting memories of sea breeze that can be felt everywhere: from busy streets with skyscrapers and measly houses of local traders, to Christian churches and Buddhist temples, to Western shops and counters covered with noodles. Hong Kong is a city where everyone can find their place, and one that nobody wants to leave after they understand its culture better.

How to travel?

Reaching the faraway Hong Kong is easier than any other place at the same distance. After landing in the modern Hong Kong airport, you will quickly get acquainted with the well-developed city public transportation and roads system. Every tourist may choose to travel across the interesting Asian region of Hong Kong using ferries, subway, funiculars, buses, metro, taxi, or any other way that’s liked the most.

What to taste?

Hong Kong will be a perfect holiday location for those who love delicious and filling food. Here, everyone will find something to their liking, as Chinese people are always willing to offer tourists the best traditional dishes and some tea right away. Definitely try some Dim Sum (various bite-sized food portions), Siu Mai (honey-glazed pork), Congee (rice porridge that is being prepared for 10 hours), and various types of noodle dishes. Hong Kong locals are proud of their traditional desserts that unfortunately are usually too foreign and odd for many European tourists. Hong Kong also offers many unusual gourmet delicacies that are made from snake, shark or horse meat, chicken legs, pig ears, duck heads, and other similar ingredients.

What to see?

If you wish to feel the true spirit of Hong Kong, head over to admire the night view of skyscrapers, considered to be the most beautiful in the whole world. Victoria Peak mountain and its observation deck are perfect for that. After doing this, you should also pay a visit to the Hakka village, the Fu Shin street market, and various temples. We also recommend taking a walk to observe traditional Chinese wooden homes on support pillars and going to see the Po Lin monastery with the second largest Buddha statue inside.

What to do?

Travelling across Hong Kong usually takes a lot of time. However, if you still have a bonus free day left, we recommend visiting the night market, where you can find especially delicious local food to purchase and listen to the locals’ karaoke. Also interesting are the museums of “Dialogue in the dark” Hobbies, and Toys.
